The University of Oklahoma Lady Sooners defeated the Tennessee Lady Volunteers last night at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.
Pat Summitt walked off the court still stuck on 999 wins. Courtney Paris bounded away with tears of joy despite her remarkable double-double streak coming to an end.
Paris had gotten a double-double in an NCAA-record 112 straight games before coming up just short against Tennessee (No. 15 ESPN/USA Today, No. 12 AP). Whitney Hand matched her career high with 20 points to help second-ranked Oklahoma beat the Lady Vols 80-70 on Monday night for the Sooners’ 15th straight victory.
I guess this is a big deal to some people. Brent Musburger and Bob Knight called the game, which was attended by some 10,000 plus Sooner and Vol fans. Oklahoma erased a double-digit first half deficit to beat the standard bearer of women’s college basketball
for the first time in school history. But I just can’t get into it.
Not that I have some aversion to women playing basketball. I say go for it, especially if you are Krista Sanchez. I would probably get excited if my wife (HA!) or daughter played competitive basketball. But 40-plus turnovers, set shots from 17 feet, and spectacular under-the-rim play doesn’t pique my interest.
I will watch the Lady Sooners in the NCAA tournament, provided they win a few games. But we already know what will happen. UConn and its group of Amazons will obliterate our merry band of normal college chicks into submission, prompting the average OU fan to proclaim:
“Y’all seen that there running back Jurmee Kalhooon in practice? That boy right thur’s gone win him a couple’a them Heismans!”

For the sake of the blog, please make this the last non-topless/ky wrestling discussion of women’s “sports.”
Thanks

We’ll save those for when we’re starving for hits. Speaking of Sherri, I worked with her one-on-one — not that way — during my senior year on a bunch of marketing projects. I designed the media guide cover, schedule poster, etc. Yeah, I had no business doing any of that, but she was nice and had great legs. So, yeah …
